Based in Sydney, Giant Silk Art is a studio dedicated to the intersection of silk monumental sculpture and architectural objects.
I work exclusively with the finest 100% Mulberry silk. For my large-scale installations, I choose 22-momme silk for its unique structural presence; for more delicate works, I use the ethereal 6-momme weave. To me, silk is not just a fabric—it is a living medium with its own fluid language.
My practice explores the tension between the massive and the weightless. By stripping away traditional frames, I allow silk and light to dictate form together—a quiet, intuitive dance between engineering and emotion.
MATERIAL PHILOSOPHY
In a world dominated by synthetic surfaces, natural silk is a rare, organic breath. Its fibers do not just fill a room; they quiet it. The soft sheen and gentle movement of the silk create a visual ease that encourages the eye to rest and the mind to settle.
Unlike the harsh reflection of artificial materials, natural silk diffuses light in a warm, breathable way. This irregular, organic refraction lowers sensory tension, transforming a contemporary interior into a sanctuary of emotional balance.

The Living Medium: Natural silk is approached as a living material. Its organic fibers and subtle movement reduce visual tension, allowing the eye to rest. A quiet sense of safety emerges instinctively, without instruction.
Light Integration: Light is treated as an internal element, integrated within the silk. Passing through the organic fibers, illumination becomes diffused, breathable, and restrained.
Atmospheric Gradients: Colour is atmosphere, not decoration. Through layered silk, gradients shift slowly between tonal fields—zero visual noise, only measured transitions of light and hue.
Dialogue: Silk & Wood The union of weighted wood and fluid silk creates a balance between stability and softness—a grounding presence perceived instinctively by the body.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
The Engineer Behind the Silk
I didn’t always work with silk. For years, my world was made of blueprints and calculations as a Civil Engineer. But after completing my Master of Design, I realized I wanted to build something different—something that breathes, moves, and touches the soul.
Why Silk? I chose 100% Mulberry silk because it’s a living material. It doesn’t just sit in a room; it captures light and reacts to the slightest air. My engineering background helps me understand the balance and structure needed to create these giant forms, ensuring they look light as a cloud but stand as strong sculptures.
My Philosophy To me, this is not just decor. I create art that acts as the heartbeat of a space. Whether it’s a monumental installation for a grand wedding or a glowing light sculpture for your home, I want my work to be the anchor that brings everything else together.
